Bone Broth

For those of you who don’t know bone broth is a HUGE thing right now. It’s actually just chicken or beef stock/broth cooked for a REALLY long time.

Why is it the rage?? Because it’s good for you AND easy to incorporate into your diet.

Why is it good for you?? That’s a better question. Bone broth is filled with collagen. Collagen helps us to look and feel younger. It lubricates our joints, fills our wrinkles, helps build muscle & burn fat, may help with digestive health, may reduce cellulite and might help to grow your hair and nails.

So really the question is… why aren’t we eating enough collagen?

It’s because we don’t need to cook our food for long periods of time anymore. Collagen comes from animals connective tissue. The best way to get to it is to cook down the bones in water.

Here’s my super quick recipe…. You should know to make it quickly you need an instant pot or pressure cooker. If you don’t have one, you’ll have to cook the bones for at least 24 hours at a simmer. Or if you don’t want to do any of that, just buy it at Costco. They have organic bone broth!

Organic Rotisserie Chicken Bones

1-2 Cups Carrots

2-3 Stalks Celery

White Onion – Cut into Quarters

1-2 cloves Garlic

1 Tablespoon Peppercorns

1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar (With-the-Mother)

Herbs – You can use what you have on hand. I tend to have some of the following:

Parsley

Thyme

Sage

Water

  1. I use rotisserie chicken bones after I’ve eaten the chicken. I tend to just pull all the chicken off & then save the bones to make broth. Make sure the rotisserie chicken is organic & free range if possible.

  2. Place the bones & the rest of the ingredients in the instant pot.

  3. Fill the pot with cold water until the max fill line.

  4. Set the instant pot to manual for 120 minutes

  5. Once it’s done cooking let it sit for 20 minutes to an hour to let the pressure release.

  6. Now just strain & drink it, or use it in your favorite recipes. You can freeze it if you have too much to use all at once.
