I’ve never been much of a hamburger person. When I was little I thought they tasted like dirt!!
Recently though… I’ve been REALLY getting into them so I decided to try a healthier version at home.
In comes the bison. It’s pretty much a traditional burger BUT the pickled onions are no joke!! They totally change the game.
1/2 Red Onion sliced THIN
1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar (with-the-mother)
1 lb Ground Bison
1 Egg
1 1/2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
1 1/2 teaspoons Onion Powder
1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
1/4 teaspoon Cracked Black Pepper
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Buns (Optional)
-
Slice the onions super thin & place them in a bowl with the vinegar to macerate. Leave them in for at least 30 minutes BUT you can leave them for days
-
Place the rest of the ingredients up to the black pepper in a bowl & mix together. I wash my hands and get in there. The other thing to note is you don’t want to over-work the meat or else it will get tough. So just mix it until it’s combined.
-
Now it’s time to make the patties. You should be able to get about 8-10 patties out of a lb of meat. They will probably look like sliders to you BUT most of the hamburgers served in restaurants are WAY too big!
-
Now you can either grill them OR do what I did and cook them in the skillet inside.
-
While they are cooking, slice up your tomato & pull the lettuce leaves for the toppings.
-
Once done, I LOVE my burgers lettuce wrapped. They are super refreshing!!

Enjoy!
